NCBJ, Nature Preservation Foundation join forces to support Jamaica’s breast cancer warriors
NATIONAL Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCBJ) has announced a partnership with Nature Preservation Foundation to sponsor the Bird Garden Gazebo and Garden Space at Hope Gardens in honour of Jamaica’s breast cancer warriors — those who are fighting the disease, survivors, and in remembrance of those who have passed.
The collaboration seeks to create a meaningful tribute to breast cancer warriors while also supporting essential services for those affected by breast cancer across Jamaica.
Through this initiative, 30 per cent of the revenue generated from the rental of the Gazebo will be donated to the Jamaica Cancer Society on NCBJ’s behalf for the next three years. This donation will fund resources and support programmes crucial to breast cancer education, screenings, and patient care.
Over the coming months, the space will be gradually transformed with pink flowering plants and will serve as a serene and reflective environment. As a symbol of hope, these flowers will honour the journeys of breast cancer warriors and create a space where their stories are both respected and celebrated.
Christopher Vendryes, head of retail at NCB Insurance Agency and Fund Managers Limited (NCBIA), a subsidiary of NCBJ, and Carla Myrie, executive director of the Nature Preservation Foundation, signed a memorandum of understanding for the deal on Thursday.
To mark the launch of the new partnership, the NCBJ team planted the first pink flower at the Gazebo, representing the initial step in the area’s transformation into a pink-blooming garden of hope.
“Our commitment to this project speaks to our belief in providing more than financial services — we’re also dedicated to fostering supportive spaces that contribute to the wellness of our communities,” said Vendryes.
“Through this space, we honour those who have fought and continue to fight, and we pledge to stand by them and their families, ensuring they have the support and recognition they deserve. This is our way of saying that their journey matters, and together we can foster a future of hope and healing,” added Vendryes.
In the meantime, Myrie said Nature Preservation Foundation was honoured to collaborate with NCB on creating the space.
“It is all about cultivating a lasting tribute to the strength, courage, and spirit of Jamaica’s breast cancer warriors. This garden will serve as a living symbol of resilience, where each pink flower reflects the journey of those affected by breast cancer. We envision this space as a sanctuary for healing and remembrance, where every visitor can feel inspired by the stories of survival, hope, and unity that it represents,” said Myrie.
