Port Antonio Marine Police Station in need of repair
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Whenever it rains, as it did earlier this week, cops at Port Antonio Marine Police Station know they will have to walk on wet floors as water effortlessly makes its way through large holes in the rotting roof of the building located at Errol Flynn Marina.
At the back of the 22-year-old building that houses the staff’s sleeping quarters, the leaking roof is covered with a blue tarpaulin in an attempt to keep rain off the beds.
The cops who are stationed at the facility told the Jamaica Observer that it is uncomfortable working under such deplorable conditions that negatively impact their health. They pointed to a stained section of the floor, caused by what they theorise is salt contained in water from the roof.
They are hoping these issues will soon be addressed. According to them, the marine police station is the only one in the parish that has not been refurbished in recent years.
