St George’s College out of Manning Cup after 3-0 loss to Mona
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Many-time champions St George’s College, have been knocked out of this season’s ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup after a 3-0 loss to reigning champions Mona High in the round of 16 at Jamaica College’s Ashenheim Stadium on Friday.
The North Street-based school were 2-0 down going into the break after conceding to Mona’s Demarion Harris and Denzel McKenzie. Things didn’t get any better for last season’s beaten semi-finalists as they were reduced to 10 men inside the first five minutes of the second half when Adjani Peart was shown a straight red card. Mona then added further misery when Javier Dunn netted in the 87th minute.
The defeat sees St George’s finishing third in Group 1, outside out of the top two automatic spots to the quarter-finals with Mona and Campion advancing. St Jago finished fourth and will join St George’s in the Walker Cup.
Mona and Campion also qualify for the all-island knockout competition, the Champions Cup.
