St George’s, champions Mona clash in Manning Cup
Former champions St George’s College (STGC), St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) and Wolmer’s Boys’, along with Hydel High, will hope to secure quarter-finals spots in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/Digicel Manning Cup when they compete in the final set of second-round matches this afternoon.
STGC, coached by Neville “Bertis” Bell, are set to take on defending Manning Cup champions Mona High Group A encounter at the Jamaica College’s Ashenheim Stadium. In the group’s other game, Campion College are to face St Jago High at G C Foster College in St Catherine.
Craig Butler-coached Mona, who are on the verge of advancing to the quarter-finals, lead the group with maximum six points. They are followed by Campion College and St George’s College, who are both locked on three points from two games. However, Campion College hold a goal-difference advantage over St George’s. St Jago are at the bottom of the group without a point after losing both their games so far.
At the Stadium East football field, STATHS will aim to keep alive slim hopes of advancing when they take on Group C leaders Kingston College (KC), who have already qualified for the quarter-finals.
In the group’s other game, second-placed Hydel are to battle Wolmer’s at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. KC lead the group with maximum six points, followed by Hydel (three), and STATHS and Wolmer’s, who each have one point.
