Oasis Jak dominates Announcers Trophy
Trainer Paul Hylton’s confidence was warranted as Oasis Jak delivered a thrilling performance in the $1.25-million Caymanas Park Announcers Trophy on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
In a captivating display, Oasis Jak, ridden by Raddesh Roman, outduelled Money Market (Dane Dawkins) in the early stages before asserting her dominance in the deep stretch.
The four-year-old American-red dark bay/brown filly crossed the finish line 3 ¼ lengths ahead of her nearest rival, securing the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m).
Hylton attributed Oasis Jak’s success to meticulous preparation.
“We programmed her for this race,” he revealed to the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide. “She was working well coming into the race, and the jockey rode her well for the victory.”
Oasis Jak’s victory marked significant progress since being claimed by Hylton.
“She showed that she is really an Overnight Allowance level horse. We had claimed her, and she has been improving. She is a bit fractious, but once she puts her mind to the game and focuses, she will be good,” Hylton said.
Oasis Jak won ahead of Grecian Light (Tevin Foster) and Money Market in a time of 1:20.1 (23.4 x 48.1 x 1:13.3).
After securing three wins on the day, jockey Raddesh Roman singled out Oasis Jak as his most confident pick.
“This was the surest winner I had for the day,” Roman revealed. “I got a sharp break, put her on her bit, and asked her to run the last two and a half furlongs. She’s a very nice horse; she’s getting herself together and starting to improve,” he said.
Roman’s other winners were Jack Daniel in the fifth race, trained by Gary Crawford, and Unruly Don in the eighth, trained and owned by Oral Hayden.
