Second body recovered from collapsed Argentina hotel
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AFP)— Argentine rescue workers on Thursday recovered the body of a second victim from the rubble of a ten-story hotel that collapsed earlier this week in the seaside resort of Villa Gesell.
The victim was an “older woman” who was identified by family members through a tattoo on her arm, Javier Alonso, the security minister for Buenos Aires province, said.
Six other people have been confirmed missing after the apartment hotel, which was undergoing unauthorised renovations, collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday.
Rescuers believe that two or three others, who have not yet been identified, could also be trapped under the debris.
Four people, including three construction workers, have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated negligence over the collapse of the hotel, which crushed an adjacent building, killing a man in his eighties and injuring his 79-year-old wife.
The woman was rescued on Tuesday in an hours-long operation after she was heard knocking on a pipe.
