‘Hilarious Granny’
Comedian and actor Howard “Hilarious Granny” Brown is reflecting on his success after marking 33 years in the industry.
“I’ve gotten two houses out of it [comedy career]. God loves me. It feeds my family. I’ve been to London, Canada, Antigua, Grenada, St Lucia, the Bahamas, Trinidad, and Dubai. It’s really nice. It’s a passion of mine and you make people laugh away their stress,” Brown told the Jamaica Observer.
The comedian, who noted that his talent came naturally, also shared that there is shared interest in the performing arts among his relatives.
“My father was an actor; he used to par with Miss Lou [Louise Bennett-Coverley], and so did my grandmother. My father, grandmother, and Miss Lou [were] born September 7, and so did I,” Brown added.
The father of nine said that all of his children perform, with one currently in Trinidad for dance opportunities.
Brown will be one of the guest acts at a pre-Christmas fun day and stage show at Campbell’s Castle Primary and Infant School in Manchester on December 20.
He is especially looking forward to that show.
“My background comes from Manchester, so Manchester people love me. My energy is different from all the entertainers in Jamaica. I don’t dance to ‘slack’ songs, only clean versions, and from you hear seh Granny ah come ah country, ah ‘problem’,” he said.
Brown is also set to perform in Antigua on Christmas Eve.
