Cavalier into finals of Concacaf Caribbean Cup
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Jamaican Premier League champions Cavalier FC are through to the final of the 2024 CONCACAF Caribbean Cup after defeating Moca FC of the Dominican Republic 7-0 in their semi-final return- leg at the National Stadium on Wednesday.
Shaquille Stein scored a hat-trick for Cavalier FC who will play in the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup by virtue of advancing to the final of the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup and will be the only Jamaican team in the 27 team competition, set to kick- off in February next year.
This will be their second appearance in this regional tournament after making their debut last year, according to a release from the Jamaica Football Federation.
Cavalier FC will meet the winner in Thursday’s semi-finals between Cibao FC of the Dominican Republic and Real Hope of Haiti where Cibao leads 3-2 after the first leg played last week.
After drawing their first leg in the Dominican Republic 0-0 last week, Cavalier were in a rampant mood and were ahead 2-0 after just six minutes.
Kaile Auvrey, who got a brace, got the scoring started after just a minute before Stein added a second and his first in the sixth minute, Christopher Ainsworth scored in the 239th minute, then Stein added a fourth in time added on in the first half as the Jamaican team led 4-0 at half-time.
Auvrey then completed his brace in the 51st minute, Stein completed his hat- trick in the 62nd minute and Dwayne Atkinson scored in the 79th minute.
The winner of the 2024 CONCACAF Caribbean Cup will get a bye from the first round of the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup and enter the competition at the round of 16 stage. The runner-up and the third place winner of the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup will commence action in the CONCACAF Champions Cup in the first round.
