Waterhouse held by Chapelton, miss chance to take JPL lead
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Waterhouse missed an opportunity to take over the lead in the Jamaica Premier League when they were held to a 1-1 draw with 10-man Chapelton Maroons in the first game of a double header Monday evening at the Anthony Spaulding Complex.
A win for Waterhouse would have seen them pass Montego Bay United in the points table, however both teams now have 14 points, with the latter leading on goal-difference. Portmore United are in third place on 13 points, one more than Mt Pleasant’s 12 points from six games.
Chapelton had taken the lead in the eighth minute through Leaunghn Williams but Javane Bryan came off the bench to score the equaliser for Waterhouse in the 77th minute.
Chapelton’s goalkeeper Prince-Daniel Smith was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for arguing about the validity of the equalising goal.
In the second game of the evening, Racing United and 10-man Vere United also played out a 1-1 draw.
Vere United took the lead in the eighth minute through an own goal but Racing United rescued a point when substitute Ranaldo Biggs scored in the 73rd minute.
Vere United’s Dayne Ewen was sent off in the 82nd minute when he was shown a second yellow card.
