GenX crowned Band of the Year at Miami Carnival 2024!
GenX has established itself as a leading force in the carnival scene by being awarded Band of the Year by the Miami-Broward One Carnival Host Committee (MBOC). This prestigious accolade reflects the band’s outstanding artistic vision and unwavering commitment to delivering memorable experiences for masqueraders.
The 2024 theme, ‘Ravenous’, was vividly brought to life through six captivating sections: Talon, Arachnia, Razr, Venom, Ravage, and Raja. Each section featured meticulously crafted costumes designed by acclaimed Caribbean designers, including Trinidad’s David Dewer and Douglas John, and Barbados’s Tracy Boyce. The creative talent of the design team played a crucial role in embodying the theme, resulting in a spectacular display that captivated judges and onlookers alike.
Tagyei Belinfante, GenX’s head of marketing, expressed pride in the achievement.
“Winning Band of the Year is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. Our artistic vision this year was to push boundaries while remaining true to our brand. Each section tells a story, and it’s gratifying to see that recognised by MBOC,” said Belinfante.
GenX extended gratitude to the MBOC for the recognition and thanked all supporters who contributed to the carnival experience.
Matthew Wadell, director and head of logistics, remarked: “What makes GenX such a standout band in Miami is our energy and persistence in crafting an experience unlike anything from yesteryear. We’re big on storytelling and staying true to our theme. Our designers really came out and represented the Ravenous theme. Our models, section leaders, and masqueraders truly understood the stage presentation assignment.”
GenX’s success is further bolstered by its strategic expansion efforts. The introduction of sister band GenXS in Jamaica two years ago, coupled with participation in Tribe Carnival 2024, marks a significant step in broadening its footprint across the Caribbean. GenXS is set to launch for a third year in Jamaica for Carnival 2025, with a highly anticipated band launch scheduled for November.
The band has retained an exceptional line-up of designers, including David Dewer, Shawn Dhanraj, Douglas John, Fon Rose, Solange Govia, and Alejandro Gomez to craft its 2025 Jamaica costume collection.
“GenXS is raising the bar for Carnival in Jamaica,” says GenXS Jamaica Band Leader Mala Morrison. “We’re building on our Miami success to deliver an unparalleled experience, focused on innovation and exceeding expectations. We’re committed to listening to our masqueraders and implementing what is required to improve the experience, and that’s how we’ll continue to lead the way.”
