77,000 J’cans to receive reverse income tax credit this week – Clarke
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The first 77,000 of approximately 261,000 Jamaicans, who have applied successfully to receive the $20,000 reverse income tax credit, will be notified this week via SMS or email, that the funds have been remitted to their respective remittance agency or financial institutions.
The update was provided on Tuesday by the outgoing Minister of Finance, Dr Nigel Clarke, as he responded to tributes paid to him by his colleagues in the House of Representatives.
Declaring that he was “running through the tape,” Clarke provided the update on the measure he first announced in his budget presentation in March.

He said it was important that only individuals who have received the SMS and or email visit their remittance agency or financial institution. He then disclosed that the remaining amounts of the income tax credit will be paid in November and December.
“If you go to a remittance agency to collect, you have to have a valid Government ID, a passport, drivers’ licence or voters’ ID. If you’re a person with a disability you can authorise someone to collect (for you) with a letter signed by a JP (justice of the peace). The letter must have the application reference number, TRN, the beneficiary ID and other relevant information,” Clarke said.
