WATCH: Innings complete, says Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke as he bids constituents farewell
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for St Andrew North Western Dr Nigel Clarke has signalled that his resignation will take effect at midnight on Tuesday.
Addressing a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Area Council One meeting at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre on Monday night, Dr Clarke said goodbye to his constituents as he prepares to head off to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday. His appointment is set to take effect on Thursday, October 31.
Declaring that he is leaving the playing field after six years and seven months, Dr Clarke endorsed the man selected to replace him as the JLP standard- bearer in the constituency, Councillor for the Chancery Hall Division, Dwayne Smith.
According to Dr Clarke, while some people leave the playing field and remain in the pavilion, he is leaving the stadium completely having finished his innings not out.
Dr Clarke outlined several initiatives which he implemented in the constituency having won a by-election in 2018.
He also expressed confidence in the ability of Smith to continue the development of the constituency.
