WATCH: Holness says ‘many men wish death upon me’ and his Gov’t
CLARENDON, Jamaica— Prime Minister Andrew Holness says his Government has worked too hard on the mission of advancing the interest of the Jamaican people to allow those he said are wishing to see the demise of him and his administration to succeed.
Holness struck a militant and defiant tone as he issued a rallying call to labourites during a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) constituency conference in Northern Clarendon on Sunday.
The prime minister and leader of the JLP drew a line from American rap superstar 50 Cent’s hit song ‘Many Men’ (Wish Death) as he told labourites he fully intends on seeing through what he said is his mission of transforming Jamaica and improving the lives of every Jamaican.
“I know that as leader of the country, as leader of the political party, many men wish death upon me. I’m telling you that I have been through the fire many times and I still have the milk of human kindness. I still see my enemies and I smile with them and I greet them with a good hug. But I know you are an enemy, and I will never turn my back,” Holness told his audience in Aenon Town.
The prime minister sought to assure his supporters that he is unperturbed by his critics.
He also sounded a warning to political rivals that even while he remains committed to not playing dirty politics, he plans to go on the offensive soon.
“As your leader I am always ready; as your leader, I can absorb, like Muhammad Ali, all the punches. Sometimes I don’t throw no punch, you know, Sometimes I just rope-a-dope, I just bounce with it. But don’t worry, the knockout punches are going to come,” Holness declared to cheering labourites in the constituency which is represented by first term Member of Parliament Dwight Sibblies.
The prime minister said he has toiled too hard in building Jamaica “to make the fake people” hijack the progress made.
“We will work hard, we will show care and we will get the support of the people of Jamaica,” Holness vowed.
