Kinder Krafts by Ana — educating kids and parents through craft
SASHANA Graham has found her North Star with Kinder Krafts by Ana through which she creates handmade projects for individuals of all ages that educate and inspire, both parents and kids.
The young entrepreneur used to work in a business process outsourcing facility, aka a call centre, in prior years during which she pushed on just to ensure she could earn her bread. With a knack for crafts, the early childhood-trained creative put her thinking cap on and began to create different crafts for persons around her who needed projects completed for their kids or young siblings. She began her practice in 2021.
“For me, it [going ahead with the idea] was basically [a question of] if it would be worth it and if I’d make money from it. I was working at the call centre, and I ended up having to leave because they wanted everyone to go into office in Kingston, and I wasn’t over there. So, I was just wondering if it would actually be enough to make money from it to survive,” said Graham in a recent interview.
With continued growing interest from numerous individuals, the young entrepreneur opened her talent to the public in 2023 and used Instagram as her vehicle to drive traffic. While her initial scope of work focused on creating items like models of the heart and lungs, along with charts and booklets, she soon expanded her skill set to create scrapbooks, crazy hat crafts, and diagrams.
Apart from model JUTC buses she’s made animal clocks with paper, model food pyramids, displays for events like sports days, and diagrams of keyboards. She’s even gone a step further to create an outfit for adults using recyclable materials. Her work even got her an appearance on Smile Jamaica in April.
“I do have some parents that ask me to create stuff. It’s not just for homework, but sometimes they want to have educational pieces like flash cards, slides where you can move the letters to spell words like rat or bat. I also do my own colouring books as well, and I’m trying to create more activity books for three-year-olds and up,” Graham added on the expanding range of items she’s made and has plans to create.
While summer is a time of fun for kids, it’s a slow season for the entrepreneur. However, she is currently working non-stop in the current school term as parents try to complete projects while ensuring their kids learn the different elements of what is presented in class. She is now looking to create more activity books for kids to ensure they can learn while enjoying the beauty of her work. As a Jampreneur she’s gearing up to take on new opportunities and continue making an impact on parents and kids across Jamaica.
“It’s really rewarding because it’s not just the money, but I enjoy doing the pieces and getting the reaction from the parents when they receive it. For me, just doing the pieces and seeing them come out to what I envisioned them to be, and then the parents actually loving it, that’s the main thing for me,” Graham explained on the joy experienced from engaging in her passion.
