Kemps Hill, Ocho Rios start daCosta round of 16 well
Kemps Hill High and Ocho Rios both recorded 5-0 wins over Alphansus Davis High and Happy Grove, respectively, as the round of 16 kicked off in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup on Saturday.
Glenmuir High and Munro College also had impressive wins over champions Dinthill Technical and Cornwall College, respectively, as six teams grabbed early advantages as the race for quarter-final spots started.
Eric Morgan scored four times to lead Kemps Hill High to their big win over Alphansus Davis High at the Wembley Centre of Excellence to grab the lead in Zone 1.
Shemar Daley scored the other goal for Kemps Hill High, who were a third-place qualifier from the first round, before topping their round-of-32 group.
Kaneil Brown scored a hat-trick for Ocho Rios High in their comfortable win over Happy Grove High at Carder Park in damp conditions as they lead Zone 3 on goal difference over Glenmuir High, who were 4-0 winners over Dinthill Technical at home.
Keanu Reid gave Ocho Rios the lead, while Shamari Linton also scored in time added in the second half.
Orane Watson, Dunsting Cohen, Denzil Watson, and an own goal accounted for the Glenmuir High goals as they won their fourth straight game without conceding a goal.
Munro College beat Cornwall College at the daCosta Cup level for the first time in more than three decades with an emphatic 4-1 scoreline at Munro College to take the early lead in Zone 2.
Antwone Smith scored a double to lead Munro College while Kwesi Watts and Odane Windette scored one each in the first meeting between the two oldest daCosta Cup oppositions since Cornwall College beat them in the 2000 daCosta Cup final.
At Llandilo Community Centre, two-time defending champions Clarendon College came form a goal down to earn a point from their 1-1 draw with Frome Technical.
Stevaughn Spence gave Frome Technical the lead in the 11th minute, but Clarendon College salvaged a point when Chevon Watson scored in the 71st minute.
Central High holds a slight lead over McGrath High in Zone 4 after both scored wins; Central High beat Manchester High 3-1, while McGrath High edged Denbigh High 3-2 in their game played at Dinthill Technical.
Jim Mitchell scored two goals for McGrath High and Moses Rumble got the other.
In the other game played on Saturday, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Garvey Maceo High played out a 1-1 draw at the St Elizabeth Technica High School Sports Complex.
