Duckie demands swagger from Humble Lion attack
Head Coach Donovan Duckie is urging Humble Lion to be more clinical in front of goal as they seek their first win of the Jamaica Premier League season against Molynes United at Drax Hall in St Ann on Sunday afternoon.
Humble Lion enters today’s contest as one of only two teams in the competition yet to secure a win, with last-placed Dunbeholden. The Clarendon-based side currently sits 11th in the standings with five points, having recorded five draws and one defeat from their six matches so far. Molynes United is second from the bottom in the points table with four points from six matches.
Humble Lion, who drew 0-0 with league-leaders Montego Bay United in their last game, has scored three goals while conceding five this season. Duckie says they have been creating numerous scoring opportunities, but a lack of patience in front of goal has prevented them from converting.
“There are so many games where we should have scored some goals,” Duckie said. “I think with a bit more patience and concentration, we will get it right soon. It’s not pressure for us because we are not doing too badly; we just need to turn those draws into wins.
“We have quality players in our attack. Roshane Sharpe is an established striker, and Andre Clennon and Kemar Beckford are on the frontline, so there’s no reason we shouldn’t be getting goals, we just have to be a little more patient.”
Duckie says Molynes United is desperate for points, and he anticipates a tough encounter.
“We are expecting a lot of fight from this Molynes United team because they are not doing well,” he said. “They have been very inconsistent in their results and have been losing games, but that does not mean anything — this is a crucial game for them.”
Molynes United record stands at one win, one draw (0-0 with Tivoli Gardens in their last game), and four defeats from their six matches this season. Their head coach, Jermaine Thomas, says they will be going all out for victory today.
“Humble Lion has not been winning, but they haven’t been losing games either,” he said. “They have not been conceding many goals, which means they are defensively sound.
“For us, it is about applying ourselves and finding creative ways to improvise when we need to get results.
“Our last game, a goalless draw with Tivoli, was a much better performance than the previous two games, and we are starting to get things back together. So, I am hoping the boys will show up on Sunday.”
