Corporal Junior Thompson honoured as 2024 Lasco ‘Top Cop’
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Corporal Junior Thompson, attached to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Area 5 Headquarters in the St Andrew North Division, has been named the 2024 LASCO JCF Saluting Our Heroes Chairman Award winner.
Corporal Thompson distinguished himself among 157 nominees. His recognition highlights a commitment to community-based policing that has been described as transformative for the residents he serves.
According to a release on Saturday, Corporal Thompson, upon receiving the award, expressed gratitude to his divisional management team for their role in his journey.
“Their mentorship has been both inspirational and a driving force behind my career growth,” Thompson remarked, underscoring the importance of support within the JCF.
Thompson also credited the encouragement of his friend and last year’s award winner, Corporal Jayanne Raymond, whom he described as a “guiding light.” Her counsel, he shared, reminded him that “success is within reach,” an outlook that continues to drive his work within the force.
Speaking with the JCF’s Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), Corporal Thompson revealed his motivation to address the root causes of crime, particularly among youth. Observing the cycle of limited opportunities and crime, he initiated a rehabilitation and skills training program aimed at breaking this cycle and reintegrating young offenders into society.
“His focus on reducing recidivism reflects a broader vision for building safer and more resilient communities through proactive policing,” the release read.
Addressing his peers, Thompson encouraged not just the finalists but all officers within the JCF to embrace their role as protectors of the nation. “Together, we will continue to uplift and protect our communities. I am honoured to serve alongside every police officer in every area, in every division,” he declared.
Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake and the JCF commended Corporal Thompson and all other officers who, they say, “exemplify dedication to public service.”
