35-member JCF delegation to compete in SWAT Roundup Int’l Competition
KINGSTON, Jamaica— A delegation consisting of 35 members from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) arrived in Orlando, Florida on Thursday, to participate in the 2024 SWAT Roundup International Competition and Training.
The delegation consists of two teams—one from the JCF SWAT and the other from the JCF Department of Weapons and Tactical Training (DWTT).
Over the next five days, the delegation will compete in four team events as they aim to deliver a strong performance.
“The International SWAT Roundup is a yearly agenda item, and we saw it fit to be a part of it each year… we look beyond the competition for this event, because it’s an opportunity for partnership, also. We hear the experiences of other operators right across the world, so to speak, and it’s an opportunity for us to learn a new way of doing things. The men are here, and are ready; they are physically fit and have been practising for the last couple of months for this event,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Howard Chambers, head of specialised operations.
He added that he is highly optimistic about the JCF’s ability to do well in this year’s competition, having been prepared from the local staging just three weeks ago.
“We are coming off a local SWAT competition that was about two or three weeks ago (and) we saw a lot of interest in those competitions. In fact, it was supported right across the landscape of Jamaica with a total of 31 teams entering that competition,” ACP Chambers said.
In addition to the competitions, the event offers valuable opportunities for networking within the global law enforcement community. It also serves as a platform for participants to explore the latest advancements in technology, tools, and weapons, making it a multifaceted experience that benefits the JCF at several levels.
