Alleged phone thieves get bail
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Two men who allegedly stole another man’s phone at knifepoint have been taken before the court to face charges of robbery with aggravation.
They are St James residents Alex Nugent and Delroy Wright.
According to court documents, about 4:50 am on October 1 the complainant was walking along Harbour Street in Montego Bay when he felt a bag over his head and a knife to his throat. The complainant also heard a voice telling him, “Don’t make a sound,” while another person rummaged through his bag.
At the end of the ordeal, the complainant noticed that his Samsung Galaxy phone, valued at $21,000, was missing.
Security guards who witnessed the crime apprehended the two individuals and promptly contacted the police.
The two men were subsequently arrested and charged.
After the allegations were outlined in the St James Parish Court last week, the clerk informed the court that the corroborating officer’s statement, along with a statement from one of the security guards, had not yet been submitted.
To wrap up the hearing, presiding judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton offered Wright bail in the sum of $450,000 with up to three sureties and reporting conditions. He was ordered to relocate and surrender his travel documents. A stop order will also be issued at all ports, and a curfew will be in effect between the hours of 6:00 pm and 6:00 am.
Nugent’s bail offer was varied to $450,000 with up to three sureties and similar conditions being imposed.
The matter will again be mentioned on November 6.
