Portmore United take over second place in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Portmore United (PMU) leapfrogged over defending champions Cavalier SC, to take over second place in the Jamaica Premier League on Sunday after holding off Chapelton Maroons 2-1 at Ferdie Neita Park.
PMU, who were winning their fourth straight game after starting the season with consecutive losses, are on 12 points, one behind leaders Montego Bay United who were held goalless by Humble Lion and one more than Cavalier, who gave up a 2-0 half- time lead, and were held 2-2 by Mt Pleasant FA in a repeat of last season’s final.
Junior Grizelle scored both goals for PMU, giving them the lead in time added at the end of the first-half and doubled the lead in the 50th minute before Neshawn Bennett halved the deficit for Chapelton Maroons.
Cavalier appeared well set for a win after leading Mt Pleasant FA 2-0 with just under 10 minutes to go before the St Ann team struck back to claim a share of the points.
Christopher Ainsworth gave Cavalier SC the lead in the 11th minute and Jalmaro Calvin made the score 2–0 in the 34th minute before Kimoni Bailey struck in the 83rd minute, handing them a lifeline before Tevin Shaw scored in time added at the end of the second half.
Arnett Gardens snapped a three- game winless run, beating Molynes United 3-0 with a brace from Warner Brown and another goal from Kimani Arbouine.
Romarion Thomas scored two goals in the final three minutes plus extra-time as Vere United beat Dunbeholden 3-0 after Alex Gayle had given them the lead in the 20th minute.
