Jamaica’s ‘Sin City’
MP eyes Las Vegas-style rebranding of Portmore ‘Back Road’
Member of Parliament for St Catherine South Eastern Robert Miller has big plans to change the character of Portmore’s infamous “Back Road” from a strip known more as a red-light district to a hub of entertainment, business, and shopping that he hopes will attract tourists.
The first-term parliamentarian has set his sights on brick streets, bright lights, walls laden with art, a hall of fame, plus a ferry to transport people to experience the grandeur of the new-look Port Henderson Road.
Business operators along the strip have welcomed the plan, but church leaders in the Sunshine City are cautioning that a Las Vegas model may not be the best approach.
