‘CRYSTAL CLEAR’
Sunshine Girl Plummer fully focused on England clash
AFTER over a year-long break from international competition, Jamaican netball sensation Crystal Plummer is back on the court revitalised, poised, and ready to make a resounding impact in the upcoming, inaugural Vitality Netball Horizon Series against arch-rivals, the England Roses.
Plummer’s unwavering dedication and unrelenting passion for the sport are evident as she opens up about her highly anticipated return, personal evolution, and the thrilling competition ahead.
The Vitality Netball Horizon Series, a brand new competition, will see England taking on Jamaica annually over the next four years.
The first two matches of the series this year will be held in England on November 16 and 17 at AO Arena, Manchester. The Sunshine Girls will then welcome the Roses to Jamaica to play the second set of games in the competition on November 25 and 26, at the National Indoor Sports Centre in St Andrew.
Plummer’s enthusiasm is contagious as she talks about representing Jamaica once more.
“It feels great to have another chance to represent my country in another big competition as this. I’m excited to showcase my talent and make my nation proud,” Plummer told the
Jamaica Observer.
Having not played an international game since the Netball World Cup last summer, Plummer said that she has been tirelessly working on her game, addressing areas that needed improvement.
“I took the time to reflect on my game and identify areas for improvement. I’ve been focusing on my passing and movement mostly since the World Cup.
“I had some challenges with my passing but I’ve been staying focused on that aspect of my game. I have also worked on my mental toughness, fitness, and technical skills. I’m now more confident and prepared to take on the best teams in the world,” the 22-year-old Plummer beamed.
The Horizon Series presents an opportunity for Plummer to make a significant impact, and her personal goals are clear. Plummer, who plays centre and wing defence, said that the Jamaica’s team dynamics have evolved since the last World Cup.
“I want to deliver for my team and work together to win this series. Our chemistry has improved, and we’re building on our strengths.
England’s team, however, will not be easy to defeat. Plummer acknowledged their well-rounded squad, saying: “All their players will contribute so we’ll need to play our game to counter their strengths,” the former Holmwood Technical student reasoned.
Memories of Jamaica’s bronze-medal win at the last World Cup remain vivid for Plummer.
“That was my favourite moment,” she recalls.
“It motivates me to work harder and achieve even more. The experience gained from competing at the World Cup level has prepared my intensity for this series,” said Plummer who was instrumental in Manchester Spur’s championship victory in the Netball Jamaica Elite League earlier this year.
As Plummer prepares for the Horizon Series she emphasised the importance of balance between individual and team goals.
“We have simple goals, and it’s about working together. Our team’s success is my top priority.”
