US veterinarian pays $1 million fine after ammo found in luggage at Sangster airport
ST JAMES, Jamaica – US veterinarian Clint Martin, who was arrested and charged this month after a magazine with 12 rounds of ammunition was found in his luggage at the Sangster International Airport in St James, pleaded guilty to the charges on Thursday.
After an impassioned plea by Martin’s attorney-at-law Charles ‘Advoket’ Ganga-Singh for the most lenient sentence, Martin was fined a total of J$1 million on both counts.
He was fined $500,000 or six months’ imprisonment for unauthorised possession of a firearm and $500,000 or six months’ imprisonment for unauthorised possession of ammunition.
The case was transferred on Thursday from the Western Regional Gun Court to the St James Parish Court where Martin pleaded guilty.
The 38 year-old Martin, who is from Tennessee, was arrested and charged on October 3 and was granted bail six days later.
Martin jetted off the island on Thursday shortly after paying the fines.
