Tevin Foster makes significant move
Jockey’s quartet of wins solidifies championship lead
Tevin Foster’s hot streak showed no signs of abating on Saturday, October 12, 2024 as he took the limelight with four impressive victories on the 10-race programme. These wins had catapulted him to the top of the championship standings, and he was feeling unstoppable.
“I wasn’t under any pressure,” Foster recalled, a hint of a smile on his lips. “When you get quality horses that come to run, confidence soars.”
The highlight of Foster’s quartet of winners was Jason DaCosta’s Himaya who captured the $1.05-million Reggae Skanking Trophy during race two of series three in the BGLC/TOBA Millionaire Series. Himaya’s triumph earned owner Elizabeth DaCosta a $2-million bonus.
Himaya looked good in the maiden special weight contest for native-bred three-year-olds, winning by 3¾ lengths over seven furlongs (1,400m) in a time of 1:30.1.
Foster’s other winners were Brompton Alex for trainer Phillip Lee in the $800,000 Reggae Roots Rocking Trophy; Miss MoneyPenny, also trained by DaCosta, in the $1.09-million Princess Popstar Trophy; and Princess Ria for trainer Omar Williams in the $750,000 Reggae Rocksteady Trophy.
“At this point, trainers want the best jockeys as possible, and that’s Raddesh and me,” Foster said with a smile.
“We’ve got the better rides, and all we need to do is go out there and execute our plans. Each time we execute our plan well, we came out victorious,” Foster said.
Foster acknowledged the support of owners, trainers, fellow jockeys, and grooms.
“I couldn’t have done it without them,” he emphasised. “I’m asking for continuous support through the rest of the year.”
With his four winners Foster maintains a four-length lead in the jockeys’ standings with 108 wins, ahead of Raddesh Roman’s 104. Roman was winless on the day.
“Continuous support, hard work, and executing plans will propel me to the championship. This battle for the title is exciting for the sport, exciting for fans… We’ll keep it clean and may the best jockey win.”
Reaching 100 wins for the season on October 5, Foster was overcome with emotion.
“I’ve been putting in the hours, and it’s paying off. I’m feeling proud of myself, and I’m thankful for everyone who’s played a major role in this achievement,” he said, his voice filled with gratitude.
