Going with Danka in Heroes’ Sprint
Seven two-year-old thoroughbreds are set to compete in tomorrow’s $1.01-million Heroes Sprint, part of the Betting, Gaming, and Lotteries Commission (BGLC)/Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) Millionaire Series (Series 1, Race 2).
The maiden special weight event for native-bred juveniles will cover 5 furlongs (1,000m) on the round course.
Here’s an assessment of the contenders:
1. DANKA: (2 ch f by Aveenu Malcainu – Baby P) – Finished second by 4 ¼ lengths on debut behind Burning Hedge over 4 furlongs (800m) on September 14. With that run under her girth, Danka should now stronger and fitter. The horse to beat.
2. SIMPLY ENCHANTING: (2 ch f by Soul Warrior – My Elle Belle) – Finished fifth by 5 ½ lengths behind Burning Hedge and Danka on September 14. Simply Enchanting is expected to improve. Note: First-time Lasix.
3. PLATINUM PRINCESS: (2 b f by Bern Identity – Native Gold) – Unlikely to contend. Note: Blinkers on, tongue-tie on, and first-time Lasix.
4. MR LEE: (2 b f by Spieth – Kipling Weekend) – Not yet ready.
5. ASCEND: (2 ch f by Bern Identity – Twist “N” Turn) – Should benefit from first outing.
6. BEAUTIFUL SUNSET: (2 ch f by Northern Giant – Excellence) – Is expected to bounce back from a disappointed debut where she finished in sixth place by 6 3/4 lengths behind Burning Hedge and Danka. Note: First-time Lasix.
7. BADGAL CALEESI: (2 b f Buzz Nightmare – Turbinia) – Unlikely winner. Note: Blinkers on.
