Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden reportedly to switch allegiance to Jamaica
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden will be switching his international allegiance from England to Jamaica, according to UK media reports.
According to British sports website TEAMtalk, Hayden accepted the offer to represent Jamaica after being approached by Reggae Boyz head coach Steve McClaren.
The Newcastle United star qualifies to play for the Reggae Boyz through his Jamaican-born father.
While Hayden, 29, represented England from the U16 to U21 level, he has never done so on the senior level, which allows him to switch his international allegiance to the Caribbean nation, TEAMtalk said.
He may join former Manchester United star Mason Greenwood who was earlier rumored to have begun the process of changing his allegiance, as well as a host of other English born footballers who have already made the move such as Michail Antonio, Demarai Gray and more recently Mason Holgate.
