Key clash takes centre stage in Alberga Cup
In a much-anticipated clash that pits last season’s beaten league and knockout finalists against each other, Hillel Academy will welcome Liberty Academy in a JISA/Canopy Insurance Alberga Cup National Under-12 football competition matchup that is likely to determine the eventual winners of Zone 2.
Both teams are coming off double figure wins in Monday’s round of matches. Liberty, who were idle on Saturday, making light work of Bright Beginning, brushing them aside 10-0 with Hillel securing their second win with a 11-0 triumph over Mavisville. The match is scheduled to get underway at 2:30 pm.
In Zone 5, El Instituto and Glenmuir are also expected to push each other to the limits in another highly anticipated contest that pairs two of the stronger teams against each other.
Defending league and knockout champions Mona Prep, who are coming off a key 3-0 win over Hydel in their last match are among the teams looking to extend their unbeaten run in the competition.
St Andrew, who edged St Hugh’s 2-1 on Monday, Lannaman’s (5-1 vs Christel House); Emmanuel Christian Academy (4-0 vs Ardenne); Stella Maris (6-0 vs Richmond Park); and Glenmuir (3-1 vs South Starz) are all on the hunt for a third-consecutive victory today. Sts Peter and Paul, who defeated Liguanea 10-0 on Monday is idle today after the withdrawal of Morris Knibb.
St Andrew will like their chances against Trafalgar in their Zone 4 contest at home starting at 2:30 pm, with Mona expected to continue on their merry way when they come up against Reach Academy at 2:30 pm at AISK.
Lannaman’s, a huge favourite for this year’s championship, have not showed their hand so far this season but Ardenne will find things hard against the Haron Martin-coached outfit in their 1:00 pm Zone 1 fixture at Hillel while zone rivals ECA should get the better of Creative Kids in their 2:30 pm contest at NWC Field.
