Trainer Carlton Cunningham praises jockey Shane Richardson after Millinium Star’s victory
Trainer Cartlon Cunningham sang praises for jockey Shane Richardson following Millinium Star’s impressive win in the $700,000 Reggae medley Trophy at Caymanas Park on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
Millinium Star came from behind runners to win easily by 4 lengths in the three-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) event that included six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and native-bred five-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
“Shane and I have developed a strong partnership,” Cunningham told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“He’s ridden four horses for me, securing three wins. The only loss was due to unforeseen circumstances — the horse developed a stone squeeze close to the finish, placing fourth,” he added.
Cunningham highlighted Richardson’s successful rides on Crimson. Speedie Hare, and now Millinium Star.
“Shane consistently demonstrates his commitment in morning training sessions,” Cunningham emphasised.
“I value jockeys who prioritise our mutual success. We have upcoming rides planned, and I look forward to continuing our winning collaboration. This is my 16th winner and I am looking out for many more,” Cunningham said.
Millinium Star won ahead of Six Avenue (Calvin Bailey) and Silent Cat (Tevin Foster) in a time of 1:31.0. Millinium Star is a five-year-old bay mare bred by Storm Craft out of the Deputy Glitters mare Running Star. She has now won two races from 30 starts with lifetime earnings of over $2.1 million.
