‘Hotstepper’ by Trinix featuring Ini Kamoze is gold in France
Hotstepper, an electronic dance remix of Here Comes the Hotstepper by Ini Kamoze, has been certified gold in France.
Last Thursday, Syndicat National de L’edition Phonographique (SNEP), which translates to National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing, issued the certification commemorating 250,000 units in sales and streaming equivalent.
Hotstepper, produced by French duo Trinix, was released in April via WEA/Warner Music France.
Trinix, which comprises Josh Chergui and Lois Serre, was formed 12 years ago. The electronic duo has had success in parts of Europe including Germany, Russia and Poland.
Here Comes the Hotstepper, released in 1994 was the lead single from Ini Kamoze’s Columbia Records album of the same name. The song was also featured in the film Pret-A-Porter, and it topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in December 1994.
Here Comes the Hotstepper has been certified gold in Germany, platinum in Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom. Over in the United States, the song has been certified double platinum.
The song also made the top ten in 13 countries, and it also went to #1 in Zimbabwe, Denmark and in New Zealand.
Earlier this year, the original version of the song had a resurgence when it was featured in a Starbucks commercial for the newly released Refreshers.
