Cop kills man at event in St Catherine
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A man was allegedly shot and killed by a policeman at an event in Ewarton, St Catherine on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Vivian Francis, a Jamaican of a New Jersey, USA address.
According to police reports, the cop and Francis were attending an event held at the Ewarton Sports Complex when an argument developed between them about 10:10 pm.
Francis had reportedly overturned a table, and allegedly withdrew a knife from his waistband and stabbed at the policeman. The cop pulled his service firearm and reportedly shouted “police drop the knife”.
Francis allegedly advanced at the policeman who opened fire, hitting him.
Francis was later assisted to the Linstead Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has triggered an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
