Flow Foundation brings joy and healing to paediatric cancer patients at annual children’s treat
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The lawns of Hope Gardens in St Andrew were transformed into a haven of joy and healing for paediatric cancer patients from the Bustamante Hospital for Children (BHC) as the Flow Foundation, in collaboration with the hospital, hosted its annual children’s treat on September 28.
The day’s activities provided fun and connection for young patients who were accompanied by their families.
“We continue to host this event because we believe in supporting more than just the medical needs of the children. We care about their holistic development and the wellbeing of both these young children and their families,” said LeVaughn Flynn, Flow’s public relations manager and a director of the Flow Foundation.
Dr Sharon McLean-Salmon, a paediatric haematologist/oncologist at BHC, emphasised the importance of these experiences for children dealing with serious illness.
“We see children at their most vulnerable moments, but it’s days like today that remind us of the strength and resilience they have. Beyond medicine, these children need love, joy, and spaces where they can feel like children again. Events like this make a world of difference,” said Dr McLean-Salmon.
Several parents also expressed their gratitude for the initiative. For many, watching their children enjoy a day away from hospital visits and treatments provided a much-needed sense of relief.
“It’s such a blessing to see the children running and playing with each other,” shared Gillian Jameson who has a daughter receiving treatment at the hospital. “We’re so thankful to the Flow Foundation and the hospital for giving us this day. We appreciate it.”
This event underscores the Flow Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting institutions that are vested in its philosophy of changing communities and transforming lives.
