Saluto to Modulo
Modulo celebrated 30 years of providing original equipment manufacturer (OEM) quality aftermarket accessories to Honda with a special exhibition that ran from September 24 to September 30 at Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama, Tokyo.
“We will continue to expand what is possible for our customers, Honda, and our partners,” stated Toshiya Sakai, president and CEO, Honda Access Co Ltd, on the company’s website.
Modulo was created in 1994 as a wheel brand and is a subsidiary of Honda Access Co Ltd, the entity that develops, manufacturers, and sells OEM accessories under several brand names. Its very first product was a two-piece wheel for the Honda Vigor sedan.
The focus of Modulo changed with the implementation of the four wheels on the ground philosophy, basically having all four tyres of the car making maximum contact with the ground. To do this it expanded its product development to suspension and aerodynamic parts. Its first aero parts were released in 1996 for the fifth generation Honda Prelude. Since then it has further moved to create the Modulo X badge that denotes complete cars equipped with all the parts specific for that model available through Honda’s dealership network.
The 30th anniversary exhibition saw the new and old come together, giving context to the history of Modulo. The main attraction was the brand new tailgate spoiler for the Honda Civic RS. Hybrid or not, people do want the opportunity to personalise their cars and Modulo had that covered with a Vezel e:HEV equipped with genuine accessories such as the MS-050 aluminium wheel, and tailgate spoiler. The 2008 Sports Modulo Civic Type R, and S660 Modulo X Version Z sat alongside previous anniversary vehicles, the first-generation S2000 and NSX, all sporting their Modulo modifications. Other highlights were Modulo’s very first product, the third-generation Vigor aluminium wheel from 1994, and their first sports suspension for the for the fifth-generation Prelude.
As an extra to celebrate its 30th anniversary, a public talk show was held at Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama on September 29. Hosted by motorsports announcer Pierre Kitagawa and car life journalist Akiko Marumo, it saw such guests as Modulo development advisor Keiichi Tsuchiya, Seigo Fukuda, former head of development at Modulo, and Junpei Yamazaki, developer of the Civic RS tailgate spoiler. All five discussed the Modulo brand, its products, development process, and its relevance to Honda, driving pleasure and the automotive enthusiast community at large.
Honda Access Co Ltd posted ¥109,244 million in sales for 2023.
