Run Julie Run targeting The Jamaica Cup
Three-year-old filly Run Julie Run, trained by Ian Parsard, made a triumphant return to racing on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
She delivered an impressive performance, solidifying her position as the top filly in her age group. Run Julie Run’s victory came in a race for three- and four-year-old horses that had not won more than four races, as well as three-year-old and upward non-winners of three for imported horses, covering a distance of one mile.
After narrowly missing out on winning the Derby in early August, all eyes were on
Run Julie Run to see if she had improved and could compete with the top horses in training.
She did not disappoint, putting on a captivating display of her abilities.
At the start of the race, jockey Reyan Lewis guided Run Julie Run into a good position among the leaders.
After biding his time, Lewis urged the filly into the lead. Despite a challenge from
Impressive Force, especially in the early part of the straight, Run Julie Run’s superior class shone through. Impressive Force finished in second place, with Comehometome taking the third spot.
The race fractions were 23.0, 46.2, 1:12.4, 1:25.2, and the final time was 1:38.1. Run Julie Run won by 4 ½ lengths, with a 9-1/4 length lead. This win marked Run Julie Run’s fourth victory in 11 starts, and she is now qualified for the Overnight Allowance level. Her career earnings have surpassed $6 million.
Trainer Ian Parsard expressed his satisfaction with Run Julie Run’s performance, stating, “Very pleased with her effort on Saturday. She ran as expected, plus a bit more.”
Looking ahead, Parsard mentioned that they would need to assess Run Julie Run’s condition after the race. They are considering either giving her another race before the Jamaica Cup or aiming directly for the Jamaica Cup, scheduled for November 9.
The final decision will be announced in due course.
