Rare and thrilling feat achieved as rivals clash for championship glory
Two talented jockeys, Tevin Foster and Raddesh Roman, have achieved a rare feat — 100 wins in a single season and to boot, on the same race day.
This unprecedented feat was accomplished on Saturday, October 5, 2024, and cements their status as two of the sport’s most exciting and exceptional riders.
Foster and Roman have been dominating the racing circuit over the last two years, consistently delivering outstanding performances that have left fans and pundits alike in awe.
On Saturday, the stage was set for a nail-biting showdown as Foster and Roman entered the nine-race card tied on 99 wins each. The tension was palpable as the two titans of local racing vied for supremacy.
Roman drew first blood, riding Sensational Satin to victory in the opening event for trainer Winchester McIntosh, bringing up his 100th winner and taking the lead in the jockeys’ race for the first time in nine months. He doubled his tally aboard Uncaptured Empress in the third race, pushing his count to 101.
However, Foster was far from done. He responded to Roman by reeling off four winners to seize the advantage. His milestone 100th victory came aboard Workout Cru in the fourth race for owner-trainer O’Neil Markland.
Foster’s other winners were Mr Senator (fifth race), Irish Wish (sixth race), and
Supremasi (eighth race). The latter three victories came courtesy of trainer Anthony “Baba” Nunes.
As the dust settled, Foster held a slender 103-101 lead over Roman in the jockeys’ championship heading into Sunday’s (October 6, 2024) nine-race programme.
Foster momentarily extended his lead to three wins, securing his 104th victory aboard
Esuse Me Goodby for trainer Fitzgerald Richards. Roman trailed with 101 wins.
Roman swiftly closed the gap to just one win, riding a double: She’s Adorable for Carlton Cunningham in the sixth race and Babylove (Anthony Nunes) in the eighth race.
This thrilling see-saw battle has captivated racing fans, with Foster now holding a slender one-win advantage (104-103).
Will Foster maintain his lead, or will Roman overtake him? The suspense continues to build in this gripping jockey championship chase.
