Mouttet Mile update: Local contenders vie for spots
The prestigious Mouttet Mile, scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Caymanas Park, has limited spots available for local contenders.
According to the rules of racing, only 16 horses can start in the race, with six slots allocated to international invitees. That leaves 10 slots for horses who have been racing locally (foreigners and locals) since January 1, 2024.
Of those 10 slots, four are designated for the winners of the Jamaica Derby, the Gold Cup, the yet-to-be-run Jamaica Cup, and Port Royal Sprint.
Crown Chaser, winner of the Jamaica Derby, and Funcaandun, winner of the Gold Cup, have booked their spots.
The remaining six spots will be based on stakes earned criteria. Based on the latest statistics, the top six contenders are the current leading stakes earner, Is That A Fact with a total of $6,692,150, achieved from 10 starts in 2024, four wins, five-second place finishes, and one-third place.
Run Julie Run is next in order with earnings of $6,349,600, followed by Intrestntimesahead ($6,043,500).
In the fourth slot is Atomica, who from her six starts in 2024 (three wins, two seconds, and one third) has brought in $5,487,250.
The next in order are Desert of Malibu, Comehometome, Banadura, KP Choice, and
California Crown, all with stakes earned of over $3 million.
The Mouttet Mile boasts a lucrative purse of US$250,000.
