Garvey Maceo edge Kemps Hill to advance to d’Cup second round
CLARENDON, Jamaica— Former champions Garvey Maceo High booked their spot in the Round of 32 in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup competition on Monday, clipping Kemps Hill High 1-0 in their Zone I play-off game played at Kemps Hill.
The slender win saw Garvey Maceo move to 18 points and claim sole possession of second place behind zone leaders and qualifiers Glenmuir High.
At Frome, the home team failed to win for the first time this season after they were held goal-less by Rusea’s High in their Zone B top-of the-table clash.
Frome Tech however maintained their lead with 19 points, three more than Rusea’s High.
Denbigh High took over third place in Zone H after beating Thompson Town 4-1 in their rescheduled game to complete the qualifiers for the play-offs.
Denbigh are on 12 points, two more than Lennon High, but behind leaders Clarendon College and second-placed Central High.
Black River High hammered Little London 6-0 to move closer to a qualifying spot in Zone C, and are on 12 points, in second place behind leaders Mannings School and ahead of Grange Hill and Little London.
Belair High meanwhile stayed ahead of Manchester High on goal-difference in Zone F after both scored big wins — Belair defeating deCarteret College 4-1 and Manchester trouncing Mt St Joseph College 8-0.
