Cavalier come from behind to beat Dunbeholden in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Defending champions Cavalier SC came from a goal down to beat Dunbeholden FC 4-1 on Monday and maintain their position at the top of the points tables in the Jamaica Premier League.
Cavalier are on 10 points from four games, one point ahead of Montego Bay United (MBU) who clipped Arnett Gardens 1-0 at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Dunbeholden, who have lost all three games played, went ahead in the fifth minute through Dayshaneil Russell but the lead only lasted until the 31st minute when Shaquille Stein equalised for Cavalier SC before Christopher Ainsworth put the champions up 2-1 on the stroke of half time, in the 45th minute.
Jalmaro Calvin made the score 3-1 in the 52nd minute before Odane Wilberforce added a fourth in the 88th minute.
MBU ground out consecutive 1-0 wins as Owayne Gordon scored the only goal of the game, in the 39th minute, hours before his 33rd birthday. They had scored a last minute 1-0 win over Chapelton Maroons in the previous round.
Meanwhile, Mt Pleasant FA ran past Racing United 4-0 in the first game of the double header at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Mt Pleasant, who were playing only their second game in the competition, had things relatively easy against the promoted team with goals from Gadail Irving, who scored a stunning freekick in the 23rd minute, while Devonte Campbell doubled the advantage in the 47th minute.
Daniel Green converted a penalty kick in the 72nd minute and Shande James added a fourth goal in the 84th minute.
