British man reportedly held with drugs at airport
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A British man was reportedly taken into police custody for suspected breaches under the Dangerous Drugs Act after he tried to board a flight with a substance believed to be cocaine last Monday.
He has been identified as 54-year-old Glenn McIrvine Mason, a counsellor and social worker from England.
Reports are that on Monday, September 30, 2024, Mason was attempting to board a flight to London Gatwick when members of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) intercepted him.
Upon searching his suitcase during check-in, officials reportedly found two pairs of slippers with false compartments containing a white powdery substance resembling cocaine weighing approximately 1.5 pounds.
Investigations are ongoing but charges will be laid against Mason, the police said.
This latest seizure follows the August 16, 2024 arrest of two British citizens, Nenisha Nelson Roberts and Shelby Chyna Byng, at the Sangster International Airport in St James. The duo was reportedly found with 14 pounds of cocaine concealed in packages disguised as porridge mixes and coffee.
Since the start of 2024 and September 30, the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division has arrested a total of 27 foreign nationals for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
