MBYC Marlin Tournament offers thrills and spills
MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — The first two days of fishing at the 63rd Montego Bay Yacht Club (MBYC) Marlin Tournament have been action-packed, with nine marlin released on day one and a few thrilling encounters on day two that have shifted the leader board heading into the final stretch.
The opening day of the tournament saw an incredible nine marlin released by competing vessels. While over five marlin were lost, the anglers displayed remarkable skill and determination, setting the stage for a competitive tournament.
Day two saw a slight slowdown in action, with only two marlin released. However, the day will be remembered for the exciting, yet unfortunate, events aboard the fishing vessel My Other Toy.
Angler Radcliffe Gayle hooked an impressive 292-pound marlin after a long and gruelling battle. Sadly, when the marlin was brought to the boat, it was discovered to be dead. The fish was brought ashore for weighing. It measured 97 inches in length and weighed 292 pounds.
Despite the impressive catch, the marlin was disqualified due to tournament rules requiring a minimum weight of 300 pounds and a length of 99 inches. As a result,
My Other Toy was penalised with a deduction of 292 points, shaking up the standings and adding a new layer of drama to the 63rd staging of the MBYC Marlin Tournament.
With one day of fishing left, Moetivated led the tournament leaderboard with 900 points. Safe Passage was in second place on 600 points, followed by Gotcha Again (320.2)
As the final day approached and the competition was heating up, all eyes were on the top boats to see which would secure victory in what has already been an unforgettable tournament.
