File failure
Jamaican Government’s blunder delays pension for 7 years
Dear Claudienne,
At the time I am writing to you, December 5, 2019, it has been seven years of waiting for my pension because the Government has lost my personnel file.
On July 2, 2019, I received the following email from the office of the Auditor General:-
“Please accept sincere apologies for the delay in getting back to you. In following up on your request made to this Department concerning annuity for years of service, I had a brief discussion with F who advised that one of the challenges that has contributed to the seemingly slow pace at which your request is being dealt with is the entities at which you previously worked are not able to provide the Office of the Services Commission (OSC) with a copy of your service record for time spent in those organisations.
Kindly note that without these records, it will not be viable to calculate what is rightfully due to you and, as a consequence, the OSC will not be able to approve any form of payment. Additionally, the Auditor General’s Department wrote to the OSC on July 3, 2018 asking for a search to be conducted in the various Ministries concerning your employment. A reminder was sent to them in May 2019. To date, no response has been received.
I must apologise for any inconvenience being caused by this process, but good governance dictates due diligence on our part.”
The following is the list of Departments and Ministries to which I was assigned by the Offices of the Services Commission:
1. Registrar General’s Department 01. 12. 72-31. 8. 79, Clerical Officer 11
2. Food Storage & Prevention of Infestation Division (Ministry of Industry, Investment & Commerce) 01. 09. 79- 31. 7. 82, Accountant 1 ( FAA 1)
3. Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Relief Coordination(Office of the Prime Minister) 01. 08. 82- 02. 01. 85, Accountant 111(FAA 111).
4. Auditor General’s Department, 24. 11. 1986- 9. 2. 87, Auditor 1 (FAA 11).
We need a Department of Pensions, or rather the NIS Operation should take over the Payments of Pensions for ALL JAMAICAN WORKERS.
I would appreciate your help.
YC
