Thrilling Showdown: Raddesh Roman edges Tevin Foster in Typewriter Cup clash
The ninth and final race at Caymanas Park on Sunday, September 29, 2024, had more than just a thrilling conclusion — it was a championship showdown.
The top two jockeys, Raddesh Roman and Tevin Foster, battled for supremacy in the $1.25-million Typewriter Cup.
Roman, in scintillating form, piloted four-year-old American-bred bay filly Sistren Treasure to victory in a heart-stopping duel. The Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over seven-and-a-half furlongs (1,500m) saw Roman outmanoeuvre Foster on Money Miser by a mere neck.
The Success Farm’s Sistren Treasure, trained by Gary Subratie, stopped the clock at 1:32.4 (23.3 x 46.2 x 1:13.4 x 1:26.3).
The stakes were high, with the jockeys’ championship title hanging in the balance. Roman’s masterclass performance proved decisive, showcasing his tactical prowess and skill. The win secured Roman’s 99th win of the season. This victory ties Roman with Foster in the 2024 jockeys’ championship standings.
Fresh from his thrilling Typewriter Cup win, Roman shared his thoughts on the exhilarating ride.
“I just focused on giving 100 per cent effort, as always. By the three-furlong mark, I knew I had the race under control. My horse, Sistren Treasure, has the talent and stamina to out-finish the competition,” Roman said with confidence.
“My main concern was avoiding traffic issues, and once I cleared that hurdle, I was confident of victory.”
When asked about arch-rival Tevin Foster’s late challenge on Money Miser, Roman remained unfazed.
“I wasn’t worried when Money Miser made his move. I trust my horse’s ability and my own skills. Once I had the horse, I knew the job would get done,” Roman said.
Both Roman and Foster held their respective horses, Sistren Treasure and Money Miser, off the pace, biding their time before unleashing a thrilling stretch run.
I Realise (Shane Richardson) and Laban (Richard Henry) set the early pace down the backstretch, but Roman and Foster were poised, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
As the field approached the half-mile turn, Sistren Treasure and Money Miser made their moves, surging forward with precision. Turning for home, Roman positioned

The final furlong-and-a-half became a two-horse battle royale as Sistren Treasure and
Money Miser rounded their rivals and then were locked in a fierce duel. In the battle to the line, Sistren Treasure proved the stronger of the two, edging Money Miser by a neck at the wire. Bern Notice (Shavon Townsend) secured third place.
