Dukes of Roots hunts Grammy with self-titled debut
The five-member outfit Dukes of Roots is on the hunt for a Grammy with its debut self-titled album.
The star-studded project, which won critical acclaim with its fusion of roots reggae mixed with global influences, was submitted in the Best Reggae Album category for the 67th annual Grammy Awards.
The first-round voting process is set to take place from October 4 to October 15. The nominations will be announced on November 8.
Released in February this year, Dukes of Roots was released via Migration Roots/YoungPow Productions. It features collaborations with several acts including Stephen Marley, Dean Fraser, Tarrus Riley, Kabaka Pyramid, Andrew Tosh, Darius Rucker, Titi Tsira and Natiruts.
The group is comprised of a diverse group of musicians and visionaries. At the heart of their sound is legendary Jamaican bassist George “Fully” Fullwood, whose contributions to reggae history are unparalleled having worked with the likes of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and others. Sean “YoungPow” Diedrick, a Grammy award-winning producer and seasoned keyboardist with a deep connection to reggae music, Mermans “Mo Faya” Mosengo, Grammy Award winner Courtney “Bam” Diedrick and guitarist and primary songwriter, T Rod are the other members of Dukes of Roots.
“I like to think of Dukes of Roots as an ongoing movement that will continue to honor roots reggae music with a global touch,” explains Sean “YoungPow” Diedrick.
Their music beautifully weaves together various musical traditions and cultural influences, reflecting the band’s commitment to creating a unique and authentic sound that resonates with audiences worldwide.
From their heartfelt tribute to reggae pioneer Toots Hibbert in Pressure Drop featuring Tarrus Riley, to the uplifting anthem Try Happy with Alexandre Carlo from Natiruts, Dukes of Roots has captivated listeners with their powerful messages of joy, resilience, and celebration. Their collaboration with Grammy Award-winning reggae artiste Kabaka Pyramid, Feel The Love, garnered global radio spins and streams.
