WATCH: Port Morant residents complain about poor state of road
ST THOMAS, Jamaica – Residents of Port Morant in St Thomas are at their wits’ end over the deplorable condition of the main road leading to the community, and are appealing with the relevant authorities to address the problem which they say is fueled by the ongoing highway project in the area.
“It is really a disgrace to know that the road is being worked on but it is not in a drivable condition… according to the contractor, while the road is being worked on it should be drivable,” one taxi operator from the community said last weekend following heavy rains which appeared to worsen the condition of the roadway.
“We are reaching out to the relevant authorities to do something about it because it is creating a lot of havoc to vehicles,” the man added.
One woman said the roadway has become worse since the repair project.
“It wasn’t like this, the water used to settle but now it’s a trench and a riverbed… the roads are terrible,” she said.
