Six more teams book daCosta play-off spots

SIX teams booked play-off spots with wins in their respective zones of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition on Monday.

Bellefield High in Zone G, Kemps Hill High and Garvey Maceo High in Zone I, Paul Bogle High and Yallahs High from Zone L, and St Mary High in Zone M all secured their places in the four team play-offs.

Meanwhile, former champions Glenmuir High won their sixth-straight game with a 7-0 win over Vere Technical while another former winner, Rusea’s High avenged their Zone B first-round loss with a thumping 5-1 win over Anchovy High in Lucea.

Four games have been rescheduled for today and former champions Cornwall College will take on Maldon High in a top-of-Zone A clash while seeking a sixth-straight victory.

Cornwall College are on 15 points, six more than Maldon High who they had beaten 1-0 in their first-round meeting.

Zone D leaders Spot Valley High will seek to restart another winning run when they travel to Muschett High after being held 2-2 at Cedric Titus High, ending their five-game winning start.

William Knibb Memorial will seek to stay close to Spot Valley when they travel away to Discovery Bay High.

Yesterday, Bellefield High hammered Alston High 9-0 to complete the qualifiers from Zone G, joining Christiana High — who ended fellow qualifiers Holmwood Technical’s six-game winning start with a 3-1 win — and Alphansus Davis High.

Kemps Hill High beat Winston Jones 5-0 and Garvey Maceo High were 4-0 winners over Foga Road High to join Glenmuir High from Zone I.

Foga Road have completed their fixtures on 10 points but could be passed by Old Harbour High who are on eight points with two games in hand.

Paul Bogle High and Yallahs both ended on 12 points after 5-0 wins over Seaforth High and a 4-0 win over St Thomas Technical, respectively, and joined Zone L winners Happy Grove High as the qualifiers.

Morant Bay High, whose game against Robert Lightbourne High was postponed due to a waterlogged field, will only need a point from that game to edge Morant Bay High for the fourth spot.

St Mary High booked the fourth spot from Zone M after beating Wycliffe Martin High 3-1 and joined Port Antonio High, Titchfield High, and St Mary Technical.

On Monday Port Antonio High clipped Titchfield High 1-0 to win their sixth-straight game and win the top spot in the play-offs.

Denbigh High ended Central High’s perfect start at three wins after clipping them 2-1 to stay alive in the face-off for the play-off spots in Zone H.

Both are on nine points but Central High have two games to play while Denbigh High has one as they seek to join defending champions Clarendon College while Lennon High, who finished their schedule on 10 points, can only watch and hope.

Yesterday, after losing their first-round game, Rusea’s High roared back to beat Anchovy High — ending the St James school’s four-game winning start — and closing the gap on the leaders, moving to nine points.

Roshawn Dillion, Damar Sailsman, Rushaun Burt, Maliek Headed and Kemarley Weekley scored for Rusea’s while Trewann Montague scored Anchovy’s consolation, which made the scores 1-1 at the time.

Green Pond High and Irwin High wasted a chance to close the gap in Zone A after playing out a 1-1 draw.

Munro College were held 1-1 by Lacovia High in Zone E while St Elizabeth Technical beat Maggotty High 4-1, their biggest win of the season.

Manchester High closed the gap on Zone F leaders Belair High after blanking May Day High 3-0, and Brown’s Town High were 3-1 winners over Aabuthnott Gallimore in Zone K.
