Airport employee on drug-related charges sentenced
ST James, Jamaica — Kimauly Hoyles, the 38-year-old airport employee who was found guilty of several drug- related offences, was on Monday sentenced to two years imprisonment at hard labour for possession of cocaine or a J$1.5 million fine; and a mandatory two years at hard labour and a J$3 million fine or three years at hard labour.
Hoyles appeared before the St James Parish Court where he was facing multiple charges including possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, attempting to export cocaine, trafficking cocaine, conspiracy to export cocaine and possession of criminal property after over $2 billion worth of the drug was seized at the Norman Manley International Airport on December 10, 2020.
For trafficking in cocaine, Hoyles was sentenced to one year imprisonment for attempting to export cocaine or aJ$30,000 fine; and six months hard labour for possession of criminal property or J$500,000.
On the charge of dealing in cocaine, he was admonished and discharged.
All sentences will run consecutively if the fines are not paid. Hoyles now awaits trial for the charge of uttering forged documents.
Hoyles was arrested after he attempted to flee Jamaica on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

According to the authorities, Hoyles was arrested at the Sangster International Airport by the police’s Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division. He was allegedly attempting to flee the country with an American passport that had a different name than that in his airport employment and police records.
