WATCH: Anderson confident despite low voter turnout in St Ann NE by-election
ST ANN, Jamaica – Despite low voter turnout Monday morning in the St Ann North East by-election, independent candidate David “Five Pound” Anderson expects voting to pick up in his favour in the afternoon.
“It’s a low voter turnout but people are raring and ready to go, my voters are turning out in the afternoon. We ready,” he told Observer Online.
A former People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker, Anderson is hoping to wrestle the seat from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in what would be a stunning upset.
His opponents in Monday’s by-election are the JLP’s Matthew Samuda and Chase Neil of the United Independents’ Congress.
The PNP did not contest the election, which follows the resignation of the JLP’s Marsha Smith as Member of Parliament.
