Raddesh Roman steals the show in thrilling Typewriter Trophy finish
In-form jockey Raddesh Roman delivered a masterclass performance aboard four-year-old American-bred bay filly Sistren Treasure, capturing the $1.25-million Typewriter Cup feature event in a heart-stopping finale on Sunday’s nine-race card.
Roman’s brilliant ride edged out arch-rival Tevin Foster on Money Miser by a neck in the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over seven-and-a-half furlongs (1,500m).
The Success Farm’s Sistren Treasure, trained by Gary Subratie, stopped the clock at 1:32.4 (23.3 x 46.2 x 1:13.4 x 1:26.3), securing Roman’s 99th win of the season. This thrilling victory ties Roman with Foster in the 2024 jockeys’ championship standings.
Foster earlier scored a victory in the opening race with Sonogram for trainer Robert Pearson.
The stage is set for an intense battle between Roman and Foster as they vie for the championship crown.
Both Roman and Foster held their respective horses, Sistren Treasure and Money Miser, off the pace, biding their time before unleashing a thrilling stretch run. I Realise (Shane Richardson) and
Laban (Richard Henry) set the early pace down the backstretch, but Roman and Foster were poised, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
As the field approached the half-mile turn, Sistren Treasure and Money Miser made their moves, surging forward with precision. Turning for home, Roman skilfully positioned Sistren Treasure between horses, while Foster opted for the inside rail aboard Money Miser.
The final furlong and a half became a two-horse battle royale as Sistren Treasure and Money Miser rounded their rivals locked in a fierce duel. In a titanium battle to the line, Sistren Treasure proved the stronger of the two, edging Money Miser by a neck at the wire. Bern Notice (Shavon Townsend) secured third place.
Racing continues on the weekend with races on Saturday and Sunday.
