Rowena Wright: 50 years of service in pharmacy
WITH over five decades of dedicated service in the field of pharmacy, Rowena Wright, affectionately known as Ms Johnny, continues to leave an indelible mark on the health-care landscape of Jamaica.
Wright, who was nominated for a national award by her mentee D Blake, will be receiving her badge of honour come October for long and faithful service.
Her journey in pharmacy began as one of the pioneering graduates of the University of Technology Jamaica, then College of Arts, Science and Technology, where she earned her diploma in pharmacy. Since her registration as a pharmacist in 1967, she has demonstrated unwavering commitment and passion for her profession. As a community pharmacist in Spanish Town, Ms Johnny became a household name for her compassion and love for helping others. She is respected by all for her genius in pharmaceuticals which has impacted the lives of many families especially those with seniors and infants.
“Beyond her professional accomplishments, Mrs Wright’s philanthropic endeavours have touched the lives of thousands,” Blake shared.
“Her generosity and compassion know no bounds, and she has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure access to essential medications and health-care services for those in need.”
Wright’s extensive knowledge and expertise in the pharmaceutical industry have positioned her as a trusted preceptor and mentor to aspiring pharmacists and fellow pharmacy owners. Her contributions to education and mentorship have not only enriched the profession but have also empowered future generations of health-care professionals.
And her impact extends beyond the realm of pharmacy. As one of the two dangerous drug officers in the parish of St Ann, she has played a pivotal role in safeguarding public health and ensuring the responsible use of medications. Her dedication to health care, particularly within the tourism sector, has been instrumental in promoting the well-being of both residents and visitors alike.
“Her career trajectory exemplifies her tireless dedication to serving the community. From her tenure at the Ministry of Health to her pivotal role as a community pharmacist in Spanish Town, Mrs Wright has been a beacon of health and wellness for countless individuals. In 1994, she further solidified her impact by establishing Johnny’s Pharmacy and Medical Care Ltd, a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to meeting the health-care needs of her community. In recognition of her unparalleled commitment, selflessness, and significant contributions to healthcare in Jamaica, Rowena Wright undoubtedly deserves the highest accolades for long and faithful service,” said Blake.
