Ragga Jahmari covers Beres Hammond’s Irie and Mello
Fast–rising reggae singer Ragga Jahmari has recorded a cover version of Beres Hammond’s reggae classic Irie and Mello.
The original version of the song was produced by legendary Jamaican musician/producer Willie Lindo and released in 1993.
“I couldn’t resist the idea of covering Irie and Mello; it’s an amazing song. When my father introduced me to it I couldn’t stop listening to it. The lyrics are beautiful, and Mr Hammond’s vocal delivery is so melodic and soothing to the ear. He’s a very soulful singer and that’s very evident in this song. He delivers every line in his trademark smooth, raspy style which has made him a global music icon,” said Ragga Jahmari.
He continued: “Since I have recorded my version of Irie and Mello I have received tremendous feedback about it from several music industry insiders, including Mr Hammond. When I played it for him he was all smiles as he expressed his appreciation for my vocal delivery and the overall production of the song.”
Ragga Jahmari’s version of Irie and Mello was co-produced by him, his mother Shernet Burrell; his father, Grammy Award-winning producer Nigel Burrell; Ras Manga; and the Supabuss Team.
It is scheduled to be released on the Supa Mixx imprint.
“Although the song hasn’t been officially released yet it’s getting a lot of support from DJs in various parts of the world, including Jamaica, the US, the UK, Africa, and Europe,” he said.
Ragga Jahmari is also promoting two other singles, Words of Garvey and Strong Melanin.
