Raddesh Roman revs up championship bid
In-form jockey Raddesh Roman surged into serious contention for his maiden championship title, riding three winners on Saturday’s nine-race card to tie with Tevin Foster atop the standings.
Roman’s winners were highlighted by Impressive Force’s victory in the $1.19-million RonRon Trophy. Trained by Philip Feanny, Impressive Force unleashed a comeback to dominate the six-furlong (1,200m) Restricted Stakes contest for three-year-olds and upward.
From off the pace, Impressive Force overtook his rivals, crossing the finish line four lengths ahead of stablemate Riches to Rags (Richard Henry) and initially, Queen of Soul (Omar Walker). However, Queen of Soul’s second-place finish was later nullified due to interference with Riches to Rags in the straight. Impressive Force stopped the clock at 1:14.0.
Roman’s other winners were Great Trick for trainer Gary Crawford in the seventh race and Brenda Boy for trainer Victory Williams in the eighth race — the $1.1-million Reprieve Trophy.
Brenda Boy got up in the nick of time to beat Kaylyn’s Melody (Aaron Chatrie) by a neck in the Restricted Allowance II contest for native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upward (maidens) over nine furlongs (1,900m)
The thrill of the championship chase reaches a fever pitch as Roman and Foster enter today’s nine-race card tied atop the standings with 98 winners each.
Roman, riding an eight-win hot streak across consecutive race meets, seeks to seize the lead and momentum. Foster, winless in the past two meets, faces a crucial test to rebound and defend his title aspirations.
Will Roman’s blistering form continue, or can Foster regain his winning touch? The stage is set for an electrifying showdown.
Post time for today’s race meet is at noon.
